The seminar will concern the analysis of the technological factors influencing the structure and properties of Austempered Ductile Iron (ADI). Issues related to the preparation of the spheroidal graphite cast iron (SGI), ie. chemical composition, inoculation, microstructure (graphite, metal matrix, inclusions, defects) and heat treatment, ie. austenitization and austempering, will be discussed. The results of the research regarding ADI castings with various wall thicknesses will be presented. Attention will be paid to the kinetics of the austempering during heat treatment of cast iron with alloying elements such as Cu and Ni. Changes in the residual austenite fraction in ADI castings by means of different techniques (XRD, dilatometer, magnetic, metallography) together with the analysis of mechanical properties will be presented. Moreover, attention will be paid to the formation of highly dispersed phase from the Mg-Cu system and their influence on the dynamic properties of ADI cast iron. The summary will show a schematic diagram of the interrelations of technological factors-structure-property- strengthening mechanism of ADI cast iron.
